Magaddino Memorial Chapel

Magaddino Memorial Chapel

The Magaddino crime family in Buffalo, New York was formed by Stefano Magaddino around 1922. About 1933, immediately after Prohibition ended, he opened Power City Distribution, a beer distributor, in Niagara Falls, NY.

On June 14, 1940 Stefano’s brother Antonio “Nino” and Paul Palmeri opened a funeral home in Niagara Falls. Eventually Stefano’s son Peter joined the business and went to mortuary school to become a licensed funeral director. Nino’s son, also Peter, worked for the firm before moving to Arizona to work for his father’s cousin, New York mob boss Joe Bonanno.

The firm’s first location was on Pine Avenue and in 1958 they opened their new large Magaddino Memorial Chapel. Nino died in 1971, Stefano in 1974 and Peter in 1976. The business continued in operation until the late 1980s until it went bankrupt.
